Multilayer Perceptron for CAM in
PCB Industry
NeuroCAM™ is a system for correcting internal layer misalignment in
multilayer printed circuits.
The system based on hardware, firmware and software is part of our
project patented in Italy
in 1994. The acronym CAM does not mean camera
but means Computer Aided Machinery. In fact, the system uses a probe connected
to the PCBs during the drilling of a patented test coupon with CNC machines, to
receive electrical signals and, using the signal delays, calculates the
misalignments of the internal layers. A software that implements a Multilayer
Perceptron modifies the coordinates of the CNC Excellon drilling files of the
printed circuit and the Gerber files of the external layers in order to
optimize the centering of the holes on the pads, respecting the expected
"mimimum annular ring". The system in 1994 was an excellent alternative
to expensive x-ray machines and was then produced by an Israeli company.
